We promote the exchange and the use of biological samples

Once the sample-related data from different biobanks are comparable and searchable, researchers can assess the samples suitability for their projects. Relevant sample data needs thus to be documented by the biobanks in a standardized way.

Datasets

5 datasets exist since 2018 for tissue and liquid samples derived from human and animals, as well as for bacteria.

This great work is the result of the involvement of national experts who took part to SBP Working Groups and agreed upon a list of data required to be documented for each sample.

From these datasets, a selected number of data (mandatory and relevant for sharing) has been chosen to create the SBP sharing minimal dataset used in the NExT.

New developments

  • To help biobanks implementing them into their daily practice at every step of their biobanking processes, SBP is reviewing the v1.0 version of the datasets and defining the minimum requirements in terms of documentation.
This revision of 2022 will involve national biobanking experts and aims at being aligned with SPHN current activities around interoperability and harmonization of cDWHs among university hospitals.
  •  To foster the biobanks interoperability, SBP is developing a professional information management system (BIMS). This new tool will integrate the revised SBP datasets and will provide an adaptive and interoperable solution to a large number of biobanks.
